The Porcine Pardon: Pig Named Six Seven Granted Clemency by Miami Dade County Leader.
Although not quite at the same level as granting clemency to Thanksgiving turkeys, but the county's top official conducted a ceremonial pardon event this week by formally pardoning the life of a swine named Six Seven.
Daniella Levine Cava performed the seasonal stunt at the Cuban-themed Latin Cafe 2000 in the heart of Miami’s Little Havana neighborhood.
“This animal is guiltless. Clemency is justified for her. Her criminal record is spotless,” stated the mayor in a speech with inescapable allusions to the extraordinary and sizable number of executive clemencies issued from the start of the commencement of a new presidential term.
“Unless you count eating half a dozen apples per day,” Levine Cava continued. “I hope she experiences a prosperous future away from worry.”
The gathering, either celebrating or rejecting the area's customary feast of eating roast pork during the holidays, was established to mirror the yearly bird sparing at the White House.
The pig, provided by a first responder, was christened after the popular vernacular phrase of young people shouting “six seven” – originating from a musical verse – often seemingly at random. The craze became so ubiquitous that a major dictionary recently named “6-7” its 2025 word of the year.
A Peaceful Retirement
This particular pig is now destined to live out its days at a farm sanctuary “far from charcoal and roasting pans”, according to the event’s official press release.
“This swine clemency has become one of our favorite ways to kick off the holiday season,” said Eric Castellanos, in a particularly upbeat message.
“It represents the spirit of Miami: vibrant, diverse, and grounded in customs that unite the community. Every time, we are delighted to mark tradition and kindness in a way unique to Miami.”
Participants enjoyed a plant-based fare of spinach fritters and Cuban coffee as they marked the swine's new lease on life.
