The Mighty Nein's Opening Sequence Chose the Wrong Popular RPG Show Track

The Mighty Nein, the most recent animated series by Critical Role, unveiled a new introductory sequence. It features the beloved cast of misfits, misfits, and rogues kicking ass and taking names, while also hinting at several agonizing backstories for key figures including the voice actor's mage Caleb, and another actor's warlock orc, Fjord.

Overall, the intro looks stunning. However, I felt that an element was lost in the song choice.

The intro uses "Welcome to Wildemount", an exceptional song created by artist the talented musician. It's a track originating from the soundtrack album of the same name, the second one released by the production company's music division their music brand. It's a wonderful sentimental choice, and I believe that devotees of the sequel series will love its presence.

Personally, The series' opening doesn't quite capture the hype and excitement that was part of the show's live-play sessions. "Your Turn to Roll", composed by singer-songwriter the artist, became an immediate hit for me when it was first revealed in 2015, and it improved further when cast member Sam Riegel wrote words to the tune for the series' animated intro in 2018.

Including singing from one actress, another performer, Travis Willingham, as well as Riegel himself, the song was memorable and fun. Back then, I hadn't even watched the follow-up series yet, but this was such an earworm that I kept it on my device. It's a song that knows how to get you pumped before you start an episode of fantasy hijinks.

The Mighty Nein's intro with "Welcome to Wildemount" doesn't strike the same chords for me. It's a grand composition, but from what I know of the group, I feel that its tone is somewhat mismatched.

Naturally, Critical Role has stated that the series will have some surprises and variations from the original live sessions. A tonal change for its opening appears as among these.

The Mighty Nein will be released on the streaming service from November 19. If you can't wait until then, or want a head start to learn about the personas of the second series, the original episodes are available on the audio platform and the video site.
