The Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Showdown Versus Los Angeles Dodgers
George Springer was instrumental for the Astros winning the championship in 2017.
Canada's MLB team reached their maiden Fall Classic following 1993 by overcoming the Seattle Mariners in the decisive game seven of the AL Championship Series.
Behind by two runs, the star outfielder smashed a three-run blast in the seventh inning, propelling the sole Canadian team in MLB to a 4-3 series win in the best-of-seven series. Next up are the Dodgers, who are the current crown, in the upcoming Fall Classic.
"I'm thrilled for this squad, our city, the nation," commented Springer, a star of the Houston Astros team that won the 2017 title. "What an incredible feeling."
The veteran has now connected for 23 October home runs, making him third on the list after Manny Ramirez (twenty-nine) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).
"I can't think of another person anywhere that I'd prefer in that moment except for him with his playoff prowess," said Schneider.
Seattle's team, who had led the series two games to none and three games to two, continue to be the only MLB franchise yet to make an appearance in a World Series.
Mariners manager Dan Wilson stated "certainly that it hurts" after his team's loss at their home ballpark, but praised their performance throughout the year.
"It's a special team. Unfortunately that we ended up on the unsuccessful side of the series," he continued.
The Blue Jays claimed the championship on their two prior appearances in 1992 and '93, and are set to host the Dodgers in game one on this Friday.
