Line of Duty Confirmed for Seventh Series on the British Broadcaster
The acclaimed police drama Line of Duty is officially returning for its seventh season, confirmed by the BBC.
A brand new six-part series written by Jed Mercurio starts production in Northern Ireland this spring, according to the production team.
The actress shared her enthusiasm about the comeback, stating she was "so excited" about the show's renewal. Adrian Dunbar remarked, "How wonderful it is to know that the Three Amigos will be back filming together soon."
The last series concluded in recent years with a final episode that drew in over 17 million viewers. Rumors about a new season have been circulating ever since, but official word only came recently.
Fresh Obstacles for The Team
Series seven will open with the anti-corruption unit having been disbanded and rebranded as the new police oversight body, according to production details.
Steve Arnott, Vicky McClure's role, and Ted Hastings continue tasked to tackle corruption within the police force.
The team's mission "faces unprecedented challenges", and in this climate, these officers will take on their "most delicate case so far."
Fresh Face and Complex Case
An additional officer, DI Dominic Gough, described as a charismatic officer celebrated for busts of organized crime, is accused of abusing his position to become a sexual predator.
Yet, this investigation could be a intentional diversion from a bigger threat still active in the shadows, plot details suggested.
Speaking about the renewal, the creator commented: "Everyone involved feels enormous gratitude to the show's fans."
"We're privileged to have had countless followers track the developments of the unit over multiple series and we are thrilled to be returning for a new installment."
He added: "Misconduct in this country is supposed to have ended while the series was not airing, so I've been forced to use my creativity."
Cast Reactions
Martin Compston described appearing in the series as "the role of a career".
"Not only the show's success but the colleagues I've worked with I now call some of my closest friends."
"I'm excited to pull the waistcoat on again and get the team back together," he added.
The Nottingham-born actress stated: "It goes without saying I'm very happy the show is back! Can't wait to work with the creator, Martin and Dunbar again. The city, we'll be there shortly!"
Adrian Dunbar commented: "As we count down the AC-12 return, how exciting it is to know that the Three Amigos will be working together soon."
"Delighted with the news and anticipating those mercurial twists and turns."
Series Legacy
Line of Duty premiered in the early 2010s and became a highly successful television series of the past ten years, featuring guest stars such as Thandiwe Newton.
The BBC haven't revealed exactly the upcoming series will premiere.
The conclusion of series six drew the long-running storyline about the search for criminal mastermind known as "H" to a conclusion, and the creative team said at the time there were no plans for additional seasons.
However, the corporation announced on this week that a seventh series is now in development.
