Far-Right Ex- Lawmaker J.A. Kast Elected as Chile's Next Leader.
After a definitive runoff election, far-right politician José Antonio Kast has won the presidential office in Chile.
A Resounding Win
After more than 99% of votes tallied, Kast secured 58.17% of the votes, defeating leftist contender Jeannette Jara, who received 41.83%.
This represents Kast's third presidency, having earlier been defeated by the current president, Gabriel Boric, in the 2021 second round.
Platform Centered On Law and Order and Migration
Known for his strong socially conservative views and regard for the rule of dictator Augusto Pinochet, Kast's platform was largely centered on promises to combat growing insecurity and radically curb migration.

This legislative reality may challenge his agenda, including a vow to slash public spending by billions within a year and a half—a plan for which he has not offered concrete steps.
"There are several aspects about what a Kast government will operate that are uncertain because he has not detailed his methods for do them," said a political science professor.
The professor continued, "Regarding fiscal matters, it is almost certain we will see adjustment measures typical of the right-wing. But the area with much less ambiguity is on security policy, because that has been his workhorse across the race."
