Bullish Celtic's manager insists he is not worried about dismissal yet supporters display wrath after loss.
The Celtic boss insisted he had no concerns about losing his job, asserting, “The team is very near to changing our fortunes,” even after sliding worryingly close to being fired with a comprehensive setback against Rangers.
Another Capitulation Leads to Derby Defeat
The home side were ahead the visitors at the break but a disastrous second period allowed the Gers to move level on points with the defending Scottish Premiership champions. The French coach, who was brought in from the MLS, has now presided over six losses in his last eight fixtures.
“We are together at the club,” stated the manager.
Questioned about his own future, Nancy replied: “That’s not my focus. I think about discovering solutions to get the team to be good on the fine details.
Fan Fury On Display
Hundreds of supporters voiced their fury – aimed at the hierarchy – in their hundreds outside the stadium. Club directors would be most likely to re-appoint the former boss, who steered the club during a caretaker period previously, if Nancy departs.
“The outcomes [that leads to pressure]. That is the truth for the moment. Yet by saying this is the reality, that is not a sign that I am giving up. Absolutely not. My point is we are really close, imminently close to reverse our form.”
“Really, Really Close”
He highlights the fact Celtic play well for one half at a time. Indeed, if not for poor finishing they might have been greater than 1-0 up. “I saw enough other than the fact that we haven’t scored more goals,” he said. “I acknowledge that we lost, but it's important to stay balanced.
“The standard we had at stages was exceptionally high. That happened. And I would not say that if it was not the case. Therefore, in terms of results, I said this is the same story. That’s why I believe we are really close to a shift in fortunes. But for the moment: details, details, details.”
“I saw plenty of positives that we did, like today again. The issue now it’s about performing for 90 minutes. My outlook would be different if I didn't believe it. This is why I firmly believe we will manage to turn things around.”
Opposition Reaction Outlook
Danny Röhl was cautious about a title charge even after what seemed like a statement victory. “One match at a time, then we can really build up something here,” he said. “The faith in the team is excellent.”
